The U14 Austrian Championships took place in Hard over the weekend after all, with some Metrostars players participating, even though we were unable to compete as a Metrostars team due to a lack of players—despite having clearly qualified.
Four kids therefore joined the Dornbirn Indians, three of them on the field. Considering all the surprises, last-minute changes, and organizational challenges that had come before, it turned out to be a pretty successful event overall. With players from three clubs—Metrostars, Cardinals, and Indians—coaches Chris, Phil, Didier, and Moritz were able to put together a great team in no time at all, one that was only defeated by the eventual champions, the Diving Ducks, and the second-place Hurricanes. After victories over the favored hosts and local rivals, the Hard Bulls, as well as the BlueBats, the team finished in 5th place.
The games were thrilling, with Metrostars players Benjamin, Jonas L., and Luis showing great athletic dedication. Simon J. could only cheer from the dugout due to the loan player limit, but he was still fully invested in the team.
A big thank you to all the players, parents, and supporters behind the scenes. As always, there were far more people behind this weekend than were visible on the scoreboard.
